Children all across the country look forward to field trips. These are special days set aside for a fun activity that is both educational and enjoyable. Field trips are mini vacations that provide a break from routine and a reward for hard work.
Children aren’t the only ones who enjoy mini vacations. In fact, field trips are fun at any age! Last month a group of adults boarded a shuttle bus from Central Missouri Transportation and ventured to St. Louis. From there, we toured the Civil War Museum at Jefferson Barracks. A great deal of Military and Missouri State history was covered. Those who attended this trip really enjoyed themselves.
A good day trip includes good food! When planning day trips for Community Education we try to find a favorite local restaurant. For this particular trip to St. Louis we ate at Cafe Telegraph and everyone was pleased with the choice.
After lunch we toured the Powder Museum which is also located at Jefferson Barracks. This was a much smaller museum which allowed us enough time to take a driving tour through part of the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.
This day trip was well worth our time. The best part was meeting the group of strangers, who gathered with only an interest in Civil War history and a desire to learn. Friendships were made as they spoke of where they were from and what they like to do in their spare time. A good time was had by all.
